Yes, MagSafe chargers have a little firmware that tells the device how to behave. Obviously, it must be extremely simple software, which is why we call it firmware, but this also requires another update, just like the one at hand.
Automatic update thanks to the iPhone
The MagSafe charger was introduced alongside the iPhone 12 just over a year ago. In the past we have seen an update of its firmware and now after updating the firmware of the AirPods, Apple is repeating the playback. After upgrade MagSafe chargers need to upgrade from version 9M5069 to version 10M229
Apple has not communicated the changes contained in this update, although we can calculate that these are improvements in the same charging process or in the connection with the iPhone or AirPods that we additionally support. A vital connection for the charging process to be optimal and at the right temperature.
There is no system to force firmware update for MagSafe chargers. The only thing we can do is place our iPhone to charge
What we can do is check, in Settings > General > Information > MagSafe charger, which firmware version our loader is running. Considering the simplicity and low weight of this firmware, the update process only takes a few seconds, so there is a good chance that we will not see the update already completed. An improvement which, without knowing more details, will surely be welcome.
