Google Photos has a feature called “Memories” that can be very useful and even fun. Memories collects photos and videos based on an activity or eventlike a trip you took during your vacation, to show you, months or years later, some kind of story or thematic video of that special moment.
The problem is that sometimes, for whatever reason, We don’t want to see anyone who was part of the trip anymore.. Google Photos lets you hide or completely block these people in just a few seconds. It’s super simple, and so the next time you revisit that trip you took to a paradise island, you’ll be able to enjoy all your photos, except the ones with your ex in them.
How to stop people from appearing in your Google Photos memories
Google Photos has two options to filter people since the last update of the app on all platforms, i.e. these options are available both on Android phones and from the browser for the office.
The app allows you to partially hide people you don’t want to see, or block them completely. If you select the first option, Google Photos will not show you in Memories the photos in which only that person appears, but you will be able to see them in group photos. In general, this option makes that person appear lessbut it does not completely disappear from Memories.
On the other hand, the second filter allows completely block people Regardless of your choice, you will not see their photos or the photos they appear in. This way, we have more detailed control over what we see in the app.
To filter who appears in Google Photos Memories, swe follow these steps:
- Let’s move on to the Google Photos app on our Android mobile
- We click on our profile picture (upper right corner) then on Configuration
- Then we select Preferences
- In this section we click on Memories
- Then we select Hide people and animals
On this last screen, we have two options: Show less and blocked. Depending on the type of filter you want to use, you can add “faces” or people to each of these sections. If you don’t mind seeing this person occasionally in group photos, set it to Show Less. If you don’t want to see them in any memories, set it to Blocked.
Google mentions on its support page that Photos facial recognition works very well, but it’s not perfectso sometimes you won’t find a face in an image to block it. Nevertheless, I must mention that in my tests, this feature gave me very good results.
To use Memories filters in Google Photos, we need to update the Android app to its latest version, from the Google Play Store.
