google confirmed that throughout this year a new way to free up space on your device will come to Android that will save us from having to uninstall applications. For this, it will allow archive requests in Android.
The operating system android follow the steps in Windows 11 so that the applications we use the least do not take up so much space on our mobile devices, and to achieve this they have presented the Archived APKs
This will be the archived APK
the archived is a new feature that will allow users recover 60% of storage of a request temporarily. When archiving an application parts of the app will be removed instead of completely uninstalling it.
The archived application will retain user data and when the user needs to use it again it will be easily restored to the latest version download all the parts he had deleted. Basically what it will do is convert the application into a very small apk which will retain the user’s data** until the app is restored and all data is redownloaded so that the user can reopen the app or game.
Google announces that it will take the first step with the release of Bundletool 1.10, making app archiving available to all developers who are already using App Bundles to build modular apps. For developers using Android Gradle Plugin 7.3, the company will start generating a new type of APK: Archived APKs
Google clarifies that although they are starting to create the Archived APKs now they won’t reach users until this feature is released throughout this year. They didn’t give dates or how the apps will be archived or in which versions of Android they will be available. This may be a new feature of Google Play Storewhich has a new section for archiving apps, and maybe it will be integrated into Android 13. It would be perfect if hibernating apps were also automatically archived to take up less space.
