Apple released watchOS 7.6.1 last night for all compatible Apple Watch. The update comes a few days after the release of iOS 14.7.1, which fixed a bug with Touch ID and a very important security bug. Now Apple has released this update with the same security patch for its wristwatch.
A very important security update
watchOS 7.6.1 is one of those updates that you must install on your watch as soon as possible. As with iOS 14.7.1, this one fixes a very important security bug. According to the security support document for this version provided by Apple:
An application was able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple is aware of a report where this issue has been actively exploited.
In fact, it’s the same bug as your iOS version. with the code CVE-2021-30807. Likewise, it was found by an anonymous investigator. However and again, there is no trace of mention or anything to suggest that this corrected error was one of the gates of Pegasus, capable of infecting the iPhone up to iOS 14.6.
It is possible that get more information in the next few days and even an official confirmation. What is certain is that this is one of those updates that should be installed as soon as possible on your watch (and phone if you haven’t already).
