It’s happened to all of us at some point: you remember part of a song’s lyrics, or maybe just its beat, but you have no idea what the song is called, or maybe that you don’t even know the name of the artist. or the band that plays it. If you use YouTube Music as your music streaming service, Android app can now help you find that song.

YouTube Music has implemented a new search feature in the Android app, and It is now available in Europe and more territories. Now, with just the press of a button, we can sing or even hum what we remember of the song we are looking for, so that the platform can find it, at least in most cases.

YouTube Music now recognizes Shazam-style songs

The possibility of singing a song to an application and having it identified is not something new (we have been able to use Shazam for a long time, among other applications), but it is appreciated that streaming services are adopting this possibility to help us to find a song and be able to play it immediately, without having to switch from one application to another.

Neither Apple Music nor Spotify: This unique YouTube Music feature made me stay on the platform forever

This is the case of the new function of YouTube Music, a streaming service that has continued to improve, in order to compete with other platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, for example. The recognition search function is integrated directly in the same search bar as always. Just tap the magnifying glass button in the upper right corner of the screen to access the new tool.

By pressing the magnifying glass button, you access the bar where you can write the song, artist, album or simply the term you are looking for. But next to it we find two buttons: one in the shape of a microphone and another in the shape of waves.

The first is to tell YouTube Music what we want to search for, it’s simply a tool to convert our searches from voice to text. The other button, however, provides access to the new search tool. By pressing it, the application invites us to play, sing or hum a song to search for it.

Neither Spotify nor YouTube Music. This app brings together the best of both worlds: free, open source and ad-free

In our tests, the tool works quite well, although Results may vary, depending on the degree of identification of the sounds we make when we hum. By singing part of the lyrics of a song, or humming the main rhythm of a song, the application can identify it and offer us direct access to the song to start listening to it, as we can see in the previous example.

The new search tool for singing or humming songs is now available to all users of the YouTube Music app in Europe and the rest of the world. Although this function was already available in the Google app and the YouTube app, it is good news to have this new way to search for songs available directly on the YouTube music streaming platform.
