Of all the weather apps available for Android, and there are a few, Google’s official app preinstalled on the Pixel is one of the best; The company has improved it over time, with new features and smarter predictions using new algorithms. But that’s not the only reason it’s so good.
Pixel users will know that the weather app’s presentation is one of its strong points. The app includes graphics that represent the weather forecast in a fun way, making it much more interesting than the typical icon with the sun that most apps usually have. Whether with animated characters or with visual effects that represent the weather, with just one glance we can know more clearly if it is going to rain or if we can leave the umbrella at home.
But what if the weather app didn’t have to depend solely on the visual aspect? The app’s next update includes hints that Google will use sound effects and vibrations to indicate the weather, an “immersive” experience as it appears in certain menus of the application.
The new option was discovered by Android Authorityand lets you enable “immersive weather vibrations” in the app settings. If we activate them, The mobile will vibrate with the weather animations which appear in the application; In other words, the mobile will vibrate to imitate drops if the forecast indicates that it is going to rain, for example. It’s not clear what the vibrations will look like for each type of weather forecast, because we don’t know how to represent clear skies, for example. It is possible that vibrations are only applied in certain arrangements; The app’s message states that the mobile will vibrate “when available”, indicating that it does not always have to vibrate.
Touch won’t be the only sense that will stand out in this update. Sound files related to meteorology were also discovered. Therefore, the mobile will also play sounds related to the weather, while vibrating, when we see the forecast.
Obviously, these additions are not essential and will not completely change the way we use the application; but they can be very curious and offer a very different experience from other weather apps. This addition also reveals Google’s growing interest in offering haptic, touch-related experiences, and likely the weather app won’t be the only one to receive something similar; It is also rumored that the Google Photos application could vibrate when we play a video.
