The expansion of the 5G network may be a little slower than we would like (and than we were promised), but at least every now and then good news appears for those who have a 5G mobile.
[Ya se venden más móviles 5G que 4G y la tendencia se acentúa cada vez más]
In other words, most people with a new mobile. If 5G coverage is not yet complete, the Android sector is full of mobiles compatible with the new technology, even in the medium and low ranges.
Orange 5G now faster
Fortunately, if you have one of these mobiles, you can now enjoy greater speed, thanks to the improvements to the 5G network announced today by Orange.
According to the company, the 60% speed improvement translates to transfer peaks up to 1.5 Gbps, which is better than many users have at home with a fiber internet connection. This not only means that we can perform demanding tasks with data, such as streaming high-definition video or playing games in the cloud; it should also open the door to new experiences that were not possible until now, including virtual reality.
To explain why the 5G offered by Orange until now was not the fastest possible, it is necessary to understand how this technology spread in Europe. Initially, Orange got 40 MHz of the lower part of the 3.5 GHz band allocated to 5G, and two years later it got another 60 MHz. It is still necessary to make a leap of three years, until 2021, so that the remaining 20 MHz are released, which until then were occupied by the Ministry of Defense and had not been auctioned. Finally, he bought another 10 MHz.
In total, this meant that Orange had 110 MHz in the 3.5 GHz band, the most spectrum of any operator; but couldn’t use it as such. Indeed, the frequencies were divided into different ranges of the 3.5 GHz band, which was fixed by a ministerial decree urging operators to reorganize the frequencies they had acquired.
It is thanks to this that Orange can now take advantage of all the bandwidth that you purchased, which will now result in a faster network. To this, we must add that Orange has 5G coverage of 69% of the Spanish population; Specifically, it already reaches 1,529 Spanish municipalities in 52 provinces.
