The most used maps and navigation app on Android is, almost without a doubt, Google Maps. Without forgetting good old Waze, of course. The search giant’s service has functions capable of covering all user needs and continues to improve step by step.
However, sometimes we can be a little reluctant to locate ourselves correctly on the map, a basic and essential task. It all depends on our internet connection and location services. However, With these two tips you can make it work much better.
Two tips for Maps to locate us more precisely
Although the application works wonderfully on Android, it is not uncommon to sometimes observe that Google Maps cannot locate us correctly on the map
You may be familiar with the “use precise location” setting, the one that does everything possible to obtain our position with greater precision, suitable when we use navigation mode. Alternatively, we have the “approximate” location mode, which preserves our privacy a little more.
To refine your Google Maps location as much as possible, we recommend using the first location method mentioned. However, two other aspects can be used to alleviate localization problems: the first is the “A turn or twist of eight” which we talked about previously, the other is to use the mobile camera to give Google Maps specific instructions that will help us locate ourselves.
We call this the first setting because the gesture that we must apply, a “liar” eight or rather the symbol of infinity (∞). The maps will give us directions to do this. Go to “Settings”, then “Tips for precise location”. completing it, we will have calibrated the compass of our Android smartphone.
The second tip is use the camera of our Android, in order to further improve the level of precision of our location. To do this, it uses image recognition technology: Google Maps will locate us by identifying the buildings around us.
Consider, however, that this improvement in precision will be noticeable when we use the Live view function. This allows navigation in augmented reality, very useful to avoid getting lost in unfamiliar places. The Google Maps application itself will ask us to pick up the phone and point at the environment around us.
So with these two functions we will make the maps application locate us better. We can now navigate freely without fear of getting lost. It’s time to embark on a new journey.
