The search giant continues to make changes and improvements to its popular video-on-demand service, YouTube. And among these changes, ads continue to make headlines, reaching pause screens on Android TV and changing their behavior to avoid ad blockers.
In recent weeks we have heard about the PiP player that will soon arrive even to users who do not opt to pay YouTube Premium. Right now, and as we read in Android Authority, the subscription starts a new price increase which will not please anyone: users receive emails warning them of this.
YouTube Premium more expensive than ever
The benefits that YouTube Premium mode offers us are not few: background playback, testing features before others, access to the YouTube Music music catalog… and the ability to eliminate annoying ads, perhaps the most important reason to start every month.
In recent years, the price of the subscription has increased several times, although we have been spared the last one in Europe. It still costs 11.99 dollars per monthin the case of the individual modality, and it is now increasing considerably in countries all over the world, including in European territories.
Reddit is where users reported the price increase, notified via email to subscribers: in some cases, the increase is up to 50%, with a marked entry of new prices for next November.
For example, in countries like Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy, The family package will cost 26 dollarscompared to the current 18 dollars. This significant increase is also reflected in the individual package: it becomes between 2 and 14 dollars more expensive in these countries. The increase in Switzerland is one of the most notable, from 24 CHF to 34 CHF (around 25.30 dollars to 36 dollars).
Similarly, and despite reports from Europe, the Middle East is also seeing YouTube Premium subscriptions become more expensive. From Xataka Android, we have contacted Google to whether this increase will also affect Europe: At the moment we have not received any notifications in our email. We will update the article when we receive a response.
In any case, we keep our fingers crossed that this does not also apply in our country. YouTube Premium has serious advantages that we enjoy on a daily basis, in addition to the music catalog that saves us from paying for other services like Spotify. Now, many users may change their minds with the increase in the monthly cost of their subscription.
