Embodying the revival of the roguelike, The Binding of Isaac will finally have access to online multiplayer to mark its tenth anniversary.

Shared pain

Ten years after its release The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth will be entitled to a major update, notably introducing online multiplayer mode.

The announcement was shared by Edmund McMillen, the game’s creator, as well as Nicalis Studio, which assisted McMillen in developing the Rebirth version of the game.

This free update is accompanied by “a lot of item balancing,” as stated in the official press release on the game’s Steam page. Note that this update, called Isaac Online, requires all the additional content from the Rebirth version.

So that includes The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth – After Birth, The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth † et The Binding of Isaac: Repentance. Finally, we should also note that this free update only affects the PC version of the game. The update could be available on consoles, but Edmund McMillen was unable to confirm this. The Isaac Online update is scheduled to release on November 18th.

Ten years of suffering

In 2011, the very first version of “The Binding of Isaac” saw the light of day. Revolutionary in its time, Edmund McMillen’s game plunged players into a tortured universe in which poor Isaac must do everything he can to survive and escape his mother, inhabited by a strange divine mission and determined to save her son sacrifice. Years later, in 2014, the Rebirth version saw the light of day and further established itself as the standard benchmark for roguelikes. Entertaining, comprehensive, as challenging as it is rewarding, Rebirth embodies the best of the genre and will enter the pantheon of video games some time later with the release of these three expansions. Ten years later, “The Binding of Isaac” continues its journey and remains the absolute reference in roguelikes. An undeniable must-see that you will definitely want to discover or rediscover on the occasion of this anniversary.
