Flappy Bird: The cult game returns after 10 years

In his Post on Twitter/X The account speaks in the first person about the absence of Flappy Bird and announces its new release. The legal situation is among the reasons for its long absence:

I’M BACK!! Ten years ago, I was the talk of the town, reaching new heights with my 100 million friends. Unfortunately, I had to leave fame and the spotlight behind to go home and find out who I really am.

Thanks to my amazing Flappy Bird ® fans, I’m refreshed, invigorated and ready to take off again. The ten-year mission included acquiring legal rights and even working with my predecessor to break free from the cage and re-incubate the official Flappy Bird ® game!

In fact, a new team called the “Flappy Bird Foundation” secured the naming rights to bring the game back to market. In addition to the tried-and-tested gameplay where you tap the bird to keep it aloft, the game will include new modes, character customization and multiplayer.

The original Flappy Bird was created in 2013 by Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen and only really took off in early 2014. However, the highs were short-lived – and self-imposed.

The huge success led the developer to pull the plug just a few months after release. According to him, the game was too addictive and he had actually only wanted to develop a casual game.
