1883: Will there be a season 2 of the “Yellowstone” prequel?

• The “Yellowstone” prequel “1883” is to receive a 2nd season from Paramount+.
• But for Executive Producer Taylor Sheridan, in 1883, the Duttons’ story was already over.
• So it is with a 2nd season of the western series.

Yellowstone prequel fans 1883 are wondering if there will be a second season. The answer to this question is: maybe. Paramount+ has ordered more episodes of the series. But for Executive Producer Taylor Sheridan, the story seems to be over.

“I created this look through time to show this one particular journey,” Sheridan tells the US-Magazin Deadline. “For me as a storyteller, it feels like a conclusion. I’ll look through the window of another era and see what I see.”

Sheridan is referring to the new Yellowstone spin-off 1932, which follows the Dutton family during the Great Depression.

1883 Season 2: Launch

So when season 2 could start is completely open. If filming starts this year, we could expect the new episodes in 2023.

1883 Season 2: Storyl ine

In Season 1, you follow the Dutton family on a trip west in 1883. In the finale, Elsa Dutton, James and Margaret’s daughter, succumbs to her infected arrow wound she received in the earlier episode.

Pinkerton agent Shea Brennan arrived on the west coast as he had promised his dying wife and took his own life while sitting on the sand. A flashback at the end of the episode showed the members of the trek – including Noemi, Thomas and Josef – staking out their new land.

Due to the completed plot, it’s difficult to predict what season 2 might be about.

1883 Season 2: Cast

It is not yet clear which cast members will return. We could see Tim McGraw as James Dutton and Faith Hill as Margaret Dutton. Isabel May (“Young Sheldon”) will not be returning as Elsa since her character died in the season 1 finale. Shea Brennan will also be absent as his character took his own life.
