When the competition is celebrating big sales, Steam doesn’t splash out either and packs its mid-week discount campaign full of high-quality games. We rummaged through the virtual shelves and selected 21 exciting games for you that are currently particularly cheap.
Of course you will find recommendations for the mega sale at Epic as well as for the summer sale at GOG that started on Monday. If there are discount overlaps on Steam’s counter to Midweek Madness, you can use our handy price comparison table at the end of this article to identify them.
Just like the others, there is also a game available for free on Steam: Tell Me Why is another story-driven adventure from the makers of Life is Strange that has been released in three chapters. These are free throughout June – once added to the library, you may keep it permanently.
You can read in Natalie’s column about the game why the follow-up project doesn’t quite fit in the big footsteps of Life is Strange:

Our highlight of the week: It Takes Two
12:43
It Takes Two could be the best game of March – which puts the action-platformer ahead of most AAA games
In the heartwarming co-op title It Takes Two, you slip into the roles of Cody and May, who suddenly have to fight their way through a now oversized environment as little dolls. The couple, who are currently struggling with their relationship, must now pull themselves together to successfully maneuver through all the wacky environments and undo the shrinking spell.
The title is so skilfully designed for two players working together that it can rightly be called one of the best co-op games. On the one hand, this is due to the brilliantly interlinked game mechanics, which repeatedly bring both partners into surprising situations and inspire creative solutions that often make you laugh.
On the other hand, the characters and environments are as varied as they are. Who would have thought that squirrels would do sinister experiments with their nuts, or that moles might be blind but still chase you down their tunnels at breakneck speed if you accidentally tumbled into them?
However, you have to be aware beforehand that this is a love story and a platformer at the end of the day. If using friends instead of your partner is too cheesy or if you have two left thumbs, you could easily slip past the actual fun. Everyone else can look forward to many extremely enjoyable hours, as testified by our tester Sascha, who was initially very skeptical about the game:

Oops, that’s couple co-op at its finest
More exciting offers
- Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Gold Edition: In the popular seventh part of the Resi series, you explore a spooky property again – this time, however, from the first-person perspective. Most of the other parts are also currently reduced if there are still gaps in your collection elsewhere. (16 dollars, 74 percent reduced)
- Shadow Tactics + expansion: Extremely successful real-time tactics in feudal Japan. Fans of the Commandos series will immediately feel at home in the main game and expansion, except that here you command ninjas and samurais. (12 dollars, 60-90 percent reduced)
- Unrailed!: The critically acclaimed co-op title challenges you and up to three friends to save a never-ending train with new rails from derailing. How far your train track extends through the procedurally generated world depends on your coordination and choice of upgrades. (6 dollars, 70 percent reduced)
- Save Room: A simple puzzle game with a popular role model. In Save Room, you sort weapons and equipment into a limited inventory system that’s clearly based on Resident Evil 4’s save rooms. (1 $, 20 percent reduced)
- Spec Ops – The Line: The solid tactical shooter astounded at the time with its story based on the classic film Apocalypse Now. In Dubai, buried by sandstorms, you chase after a deserted colonel and experience one of the most legendary shooter stories of all time. Despite the good reputation, the author at the time would rather eat glass than write a sequel. (4 dollars, 80 percent reduced)

10th place: Spec Ops: The Line – »Without the story it would have been below average«
- Card Shark: The brand new card cheat adventure is reduced for the first time and convinces with an unused game principle. As the assistant to a professional cheater, you travel through Renaissance France and empty the pockets of noblemen and women with a variety of tricks. (17 dollars, 15 percent reduced)
- Desperados 3: When real-time strategy meets the Wild West, it’s a Desperados part in most cases. With the third, everything is right, from the tactical depth to the story, but commercial success was questionable for a long time. We spoke to the developers about this. (20 Euros, 60 percent reduced)
- Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth: The adventure adaptation of the novel of the same name lets you experience the touching fates of several inhabitants in a medieval English village of the 12th century. The rest of the catalog from developer Daedalic (Deponia) is also heavily discounted. (2 dollars, 90 percent reduced)
- Dead by Daylight: The five-player multiplayer fun puts you in turns as a maniac killer and his four potential victims, which reliably leads to an exciting game of cat and mouse. (8 euro, 60 percent reduced)

- Sanctum 2: The series mixes tower defense with first-person shooters and lets you build defenses with four different classes and just as many friends and then plow through the enemy waves yourself. (4 dollars, 75 percent reduced
- Singularity: The shooter, in which you use time as a weapon, let your opponents age in seconds and have to stop the eponymous singularity, is a bit older and flew a bit under the radar at the time, but at this price it is still every second value. (5 dollars, 75 percent reduced)
- Iratus – Lord of the Dead: As a somewhat beginner-friendly variant of the turn-based roguelike Darkest Dungeon, you fight your way to the surface as a necromancer with your undead army to take terrible revenge on the mortals. As a special highlight, you can craft your subordinates from body parts of your enemies. (5 dollars, 67 percent reduced)
- Mars Horizon: The space simulation with the official support of ESA is not quite as cute as Kerbal Space Program, but it is just as complex and lets a space agency guide you step by step to its (hopefully) successful first Mars landing. (9 dollars, 50 percent reduced)

- Total War – Warhammer 2: The second part of the trilogy, which can also be welded together into a single game, transfers the proven real-time battle and campaign map management principle from the Total War series to the popular fantasy scenario. This time the hero units are even more powerful than in the direct predecessor. (20 Euros, 66 percent reduced)
- Warhammer – Vermintide 2: Challenging first-person co-op slashing brings you closer than you’d like to the meanest monsters in the Warhammer universe. There are five heroes with 15 talent trees for four players to choose from (6 dollars, 80 percent reduced)
