News culture 21 years before Rebel Moon, this actor could have played Darth Vader in the Star Wars saga
This Rebel Moon actor could have starred in Star Wars 24 years earlier! An interesting coincidence if we know what Zack Snyder’s new project is inspired by.
Zack Snyder’s new project, Rebel Moon, hits Netflix this weekend: Rebel Moon: A Children’s Fire will be available on the platform on December 22nd. The criticism has already fallen and Many media outlets criticized the film for being too loosely inspired by other big names in science fiction, particularly Star Wars. This is an interesting fact considering that Zack Snyder had initially offered his work to Lucasfilm before Disney acquired it. In addition, one of the main actors of this new feature film almost starred in several episodes of the George Lucas saga.
Kai and Darth Vader at the same time
Charlie Hunnam, who plays the role of Kai in Rebel Moon, had spent Casting for the role of Anakin in 2002’s Attack of the Clones. In fact, the character had to be recast after the gap between The Phantom Menace and the following work. The actor returns to this anecdote in an interview for Entertainment tonight :
I had forgotten about it too, but yes, I did it. I got to the point where I met George Lucas. I don’t think he meets many actors. I think there were probably, maybe, two or three actors that they considered. I don’t remember much of it. -Charlie Hunnam
The actor was therefore already quite advanced in the selection phase. Rebel Moon was about to develop yet another similarity with Star Wars. However, it seems that George Lucas didn’t have to hesitate for long between Hayden Christensen, who ultimately played Anakin, and Charlie Hunnam:
I just remember it being a very awkward meeting and as I was leaving I was thinking, “Well, I’m definitely not going to get the part.” And I was right. Sometimes it’s a question of feeling. -Charlie Hunnam
Did George Lucas make the right choice?
However, Hayden Christensen disagreed. The actor was heavily criticized at the time for his performance in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Since then he has had no major film roles except perhaps as the protagonist in Jumper. However, this didn’t stop him from returning to the spotlight for the Obi-Wan and Ahsoka series.. It is particularly in the latter that he shines admirably. Fans praised his return out of nostalgia, but not only that. It seems that the man has really improved after all these years. As a reminder, “Ahsoka” is available to stream on Disney+.
