The 2D Soulslike Meifumado announces its upcoming Steam release in the latest trailer with new gameplay scenes in which you can see the tough combat system in action and get an insight into the Japanese-inspired end-time setting. But the journey to this point was an adventure. The project was funded via Kickstarter in 2022, but after the successful completion of the campaign, things went quiet around the project. The backers immediately suspected a scam. In mid-May 2024, however, the missing developer resurfaced with a backer-exclusive statement. He is based in Belarus and was therefore dependent on a partner to receive the Kickstarter money. However, the sanctions against the country caused him problems and he never received the money. He admits that he did not handle the situation well and should have communicated with his backers. Shortly afterwards, he announced the game’s release date: It will be released on Steam on July 18th and backers will receive a key for a platform of their choice as promised. Only the console version that was once announced will be postponed indefinitely.
