2XKO made a surprise appearance at Combo Breaker 2024, allowing viewers to try out the latest demo while they were curious about the tournament venue. At the very least, this should provide an entertaining diversion for those players who are down 0-2 in the tournament.
The version in question is the English version of the demo we saw at Evo Japan 2024 – it features the same playable characters we saw at Evo 2023, with the addition of Illaoi, as well as various gameplay tweaks. There are four custom cabinets in total, with room for up to eight players at once. There may be a line.
In addition to providing entertainment for attendees, this will also provide ample opportunity for players who were unable to travel to Japan earlier this year to try out the game for themselves. Many of the changes and additions have already been explored by various influencers and pro players, but there’s nothing better than playing the game yourself to get a feel for it. Expect plenty of new impressions online from people trying the game for the first time.
Now the question becomes clear – when will new news about 2XKO be announced? The team behind the game previously said that 2024 would be when the game’s marketing really begins, after years of scarce information. It was fully revealed and playable at Evo Japan, so what comes next is the question on everyone’s mind. Combo Breaker isn’t traditionally a place where new fighting games are announced like Evo, The Game Awards, or E3 (RIP). I personally think the likelihood of new news being announced at the event is low, but not impossible. Regardless, it’ll be worth tuning in for Finals Day on Sunday – worst case scenario, you’ll be supporting a cool event and watching some great matches.
