Hollywood is examining which franchises have been dormant for too long and which could return. Stay tuned!
About the bombs
It has to be admitted that Hollywood has rarely managed to do better than “Speed” when it comes to suspense. The 1994 film by Jan de Bont starring Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock, Dennis Hopper and Jeff Daniels was the centerpiece of a fast-paced action thriller. Well, more like 80 km/h
. The story revolves around a Los Angeles police officer, Jack Traven (Reeves), who is responsible for defusing a bomb planted on a bus by a psychopath. Small problem: If the bus full of passengers travels below 80 km/h, the bomb explodes. The pitch is simple, of course, but the adventures are worth it: the speed never stops and its extremely sustained pace makes it enjoyable to watch even today. Unfortunately, its sequel with the sober title “Speed 2” could not build on the success of its predecessor. The franchise has been missing from theaters since 1997, but might miraculously return soon.
Recently, Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock expressed their desire to appear in a new episode of “Speed.” “I feel like there’s a call like there’s something that hasn’t been done yet
“, explained Keanu Reeves and added: “I would like to work with Sandra again before we close our eyes“. Will the man who played John Wick have his wish come true? Interviewed in the Hollywood ReporterSteve Asbell, president of 20th Century Studios, admits that “Speed” “is one of the rare films” that his company was not brought back from limbo. Asbell explains that he would like to bring the franchise back, but under two conditions: that Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves come back and that both actors like the idea behind the film.
. “They are the ones who will make you want to see this sequel. So yeah, obviously it’s an important title for us. But we don’t want to take this lightly and we don’t want to force them to return. You should fully participate in the development of this sequel“, he explains. Since the two actors have already admitted several times that they want to shoot at a new pace, we wonder what could prevent this third part from hitting our cinemas at 100 km/h.
