There are many scenes that last in the memory of those who enjoyed the adventures of Ash Ketchum and Pikachu in Pokémon. And although some remember them with some precision, today they will discover that many scenes of the original manganime were censored and modified for broadcast outside of Japan. Thus, many of these scenes that remained in your memory are not part of the original work that was aired in Japan, and in some cases for reasons with Justice, culture or ethics. We give way at 7 times that Pokémon was censored:
Dennō Senshi Porygon
1997, year in which one of the episodes issued in the series could have slowed the evolution of this saga, Dennō Senshi Porygon. This is how the episode that never saw the light outside Japan was titled. The reason was a controversial scene in which some missiles were launched against the protagonists, and as a result a series of lights caused epileptic seizures to more than 600 Japanese children. The series obtained a great demand, and it is presumed that this was going to be the end of the series. Far from it, its triumphant US premiere meant that Pokémon could continue. Obviously, this chapter was never issued in the rest of the countries.
Firearms in Pokémon
Fights between Pokémon are a way to solve problems and conflicts, however, the use of weapons has been almost non-existent during this one. Some episodes have come to show some characters, mostly the Rocket team, carrying firearms. These acts went unnoticed to be a simple animated series. On the other hand, for the broadcast of these episodes in the rest of the countries they decided to censor these scenes and omit any relationship with firearms. Even some chapters of the original series were completely eliminated.
Food in the series
During the series we were able to see Ash with his friends eat typical dishes from Japan. However, when released in the US, these they decided to replace these with more universal foods, such as snacks instead of rice balls. A missed opportunity to bring the American public to the Japanese gastronomic culture. Curious right?
Censures in the sleeve
Although it may seem a lie, the Pokémon manga has suffered great censorship. In this the battles are more graphic, full of blood, tears and where tragically some of the Pokémon die without the possibility of being revived, unlike in the series where these are weakened. When creating a product like this, it is not taken into account that it may have an international reputation, therefore, the limits remain around the culture of the country in which it is originally. This is one of the reasons for certain censures that we can see of Pokémon in the manga, the series and even the cards.
These have been just a few of the examples of censorship in Pokémon and its different products. There are many more of them which have been compiled by the YouTube channel of Play over .
