The king of body horror
If we’ve heard a lot about David Cronenberg in recent months, it’s because the director made his return to cinema with The Shrouds, a thriller starring Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger and Guy Pearce. The feature, which will premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, is considered a very personal arthouse horror film for Cronenberg, who says he was inspired by the death of his wife, Carolyn Cronenberg, in 2017. The famous director is best known for his films in which “Body horror“ shares the spotlight with Shivers, Rabid, The Brood, Scanners, Videodrome and eXistenZ. But if there is a masterpiece that combines all of David Cronenberg’s know-how, it is the film The Fly. The feature film focuses on the life of a scientist studying teleportation and shows us the consequences of an experiment that goes wrong. Seth Brundle is played by the flawless Jeff Goldblum and gradually turns into a fly before the horrified eyes of his companion Veronica.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film is rewarded with a nice 93%.The Lost Angeles Times writes: “What makes The Fly such a stunning work of obsessive cinema is the way Cronenberg skillfully allows us to identify with his monstrous creation”. ““The Fly” is a film that hits you in the solar plexus and leaves you speechless” adds the Philadelphia Inquirer. The film was commercially successful, grossing approximately $60.6 million against an estimated budget of $15 million.

Seth Brundle is a very talented young biologist. After starting out in a brilliant team, he decided to work alone.
