Dead Island 2’s zombie party begins on April 21, 2023, when the game will officially become available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This is a delivery whose development has been tortuous and whose fans have had to wait a long time since the first installment, Dead Island (2011).
Whether you’re a new survivor or a veteran, you should know what you’re getting yourself into. We have seen enough videos with kinematics and gameplays to have fully understood that Dead Island 2 is a zombie video game with a very badass style, including its humor. Violence, blood and guts everywhere. But… Are you really clear on everything?
There are no limits to zombie violence
If there is something that Dead Island 2 hasn’t stopped bragging since it was revealed is its brutal combat system against zombies. The original game already allows us to kill zombies in so many ways that counting them would be absurd: they range from conventional weapons to explosions at gas stations.
Well then, Dead Island 2 It takes the absurdity to another level, adding a thousand and one ways to kill zombies and a damage system that takes into account the areas of the body that you hit. When you repeatedly hit an area, you can see the damage in flesh and blood… and you can even dislodge/pass through/burst limbs.
On the other hand, each weapon has its own animations to hit and execute, and you can use elements of the environment to kill the zombies. A good example are the electric cables and even his own gravity. Dying Light fans sure know where I’m going. In other words, Dead Island 2 it allows you to be as wild and creative as you want… so don’t just hit shots with the first gun you find.
The world of Dead Island 2
Be careful because many players are still not clear about what the world of Dead Island 2 is like. If you expect to find an open world as such (“a la GTA”, as I have seen suggested on social networks), then I am sorry to tell you what you are looking for in the game mistaken. Dambuster Studios has opted for a world made up of many large areas or levels connected to each other.
The areas are large enough to make us feel that we are in an open world, to allow scan (and its corresponding looting, secondary missions, secrets…) and to allow us to choose between several paths; but they can also become corridors enough to allow us to know where we can go at all times. Also, the game uses especially strong zombies to deny access to some areas when you first arrive, encouraging you to come back later to see what’s there.
Dead Island 2 Weaponry
Dead Island veterans know that it takes a bit of gunplay to survive the zombie apocalypse. Exploration will be basic to find new weapons beyond the standard baseball bat and pistol. When you find a Fire Ax or Demolition Mace, for example, then you can invest all the materials you looted to make weapon mods.
Dead Island 2 It allows for a lot of combinations for weapons, being able to create some really unique ones thanks to the 4-5 mod slots. And this is where your destructive capacity comes in, because you can also add elemental damage to the weapons. Two examples that we have seen in the videos are electricity and fire. Some zombies will be weak to certain elements.
And not only will you see the damage of our weapons in the different parts of the zombie bodies, you will also come across zombies that literally melt while burning, that burst against the walls due to the shock wave of an explosion, etc… They have taken the gore to the last extreme.
Goodbye, Skill Points. Hello, Letters
Dambuster Studios has thrown out the rigid point systems in skill trees and added to Dead Island 2 a card system for skills. If the zombie slayer thing was getting creative with weapon crafting and mods, now level it up.
The Dead Island 2 card system allows create and customize character builds at any time, which can be adapted to any situation. Needless to say, these builds can be combined with certain weapon types to create highly customized playstyles. In the gameplays of the game we have seen a berserker with a huge modified mace and some “zombie abilities”.
In the same way, you can create very agile and fast characters with weapons such as katanas and machetes, for example, or others specialized in explosions and firearms. Once again, possibilities and customization are the goal of Dead Island 2.
With friends (almost) everything is better
Look, nobody fool you: with colleagues (almost) everything is better. It’s true that some things are better solo, but not the zombie apocalypse. Dead Island 2 It has cooperative multiplayer so that destroying zombies is much more fun. And we are no longer talking about the combos and synergies that can be created thanks to the weapon creation and customization systems, and the cards. The only downside is that at the moment it will not include crossplay.
In summary: a video game with brutal levels of violence, a world that is not entirely open, a turbo-varied and customizable arsenal, a card system that promises to be crazy, and multiplayer to get out of step with our friends. You don’t need to know more details to know if you want to jump headlong into Dead Island 2.
