Manor Lords has been playable for a few weeks now and has sold millions of copies during this time. However, the building game is currently still in early access and, as our test has shown, the unfinished state of the game is definitely noticeable.
However, a fan of the game still tried to push Manor Lords to its limits and presented his massive medieval metropolis on Reddit, with a whopping 5,000 inhabitants. Normally, even larger villages in Manor Lords are only inhabited by a few hundred people.
However, this high number of figures represented also comes at a high price.
That’s how well Manor Lords is doing with 5,000 residents
Reddit user TheLuckyLeader writes in his thread that he is currently really gets the most out of the build-up game. In addition to a total of 5,000 inhabitants, this also includes seven populated provinces and around 6,000 buildings.
In fact, the user has populated almost all of the provinces on the early access map and turned them into a kind of megavillage in which districts flow seamlessly into one another. This not only sounds impressive, but also looks great. You can watch the metropolis in a video from TheLuckyLeader:

The most exciting finding: Although Manor Lords is still in early access, it can at least withstand the strain of the high population density. In the video it runs quite smoothly, but that’s also because the user sped up the material. The FPS is actually much lower. In the comments, the creator gives a few more insights into his hardware utilization:
The CPU is fully utilized, Ryzen 5700 (3070 GPU, 48GB 3733 MHz). RAM usage never really seemed that bad, I didn’t pay much attention to it, but my entire PC was at something between 15 and 20 GB all the time while Chrome, Twitch, OBS, Steam, Opera, etc. and the city were running in parallel. It rests at around 10GB.
When the game is used to such capacity, it reaches another pain threshold apart from the FPS that should not be underestimated. According to the creator, it is now taking time over an hour to even load a save game
What is the current state of Manor Lords?
Manor Lords sold extremely well and is still being played very actively on Steam. There are currently around 40,000 players on Steam doing this almost every day. The reviews are also very positive. 88 percent of the over 35,000 reviews are favorable.
On top of that, the developer has now a first major patch made live on the Manor Lords test branch. Some big innovations have been introduced here. For example, with the patch there is finally a royal tax that charges your treasury and depends on the number of residents.
In the case of a 5,000-person settlement, a significant additional payment would be expected, which we would not want to have to happen to anyone.
