Although MAP has experienced notable growth, the study has just confirmed one of its worst news. Seven years after its initial announcement, the company has decided to completely cancel production of the film Yuri!! On Ice: Ice Adolescencea feature film that was going to further extend the successful ice skating anime franchise.
The decision to cancel production was announced through the official MAPPA Twitter account. According to the statement, despite the efforts of the production committee and MAPPA staff to bring the film forward, various unforeseen circumstances made it virtually impossible to make.
“In connection with the postponement of the release of Yuri!! On Ice: Ice Adolescence, we have made the decision to cancel its production. We deeply apologize for not being able to meet the expectations of all those who have been waiting and have continued to support us throughout Over the years, the production committee and staff have been in constant discussions to create and deliver the film, but due to various circumstances, we have had to make the difficult decision to stop production. We sincerely apologize to everyone who has been involved. awaiting its release and we thank you once again for your continued support.”
Although no detailed explanations have been provided about the reasons for the cancellation, it seems that MAPPA’s new direction after the change is to focus on its most successful animes currently, such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man or Vinland Saga.
Despite this setback, the first season of the series is still available on different platforms. It is possible that in the future, the studio decides to give the franchise another chance with a new season, a special episode or even a movie that finally sees the light of day.
