We almost forgot about it because the promised sequel never arrived, but no, this Nintendo Switch exclusive hasn’t said its last word yet. A new free feature is coming soon.
The June 2024 Nintendo Direct was particularly awaited by gamers and it did not disappoint. They imagined seeing ports everywhere, including those of Zelda Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. In the end, they discovered a ton of new games. The princess in her own episode, Mario and Luigi going through the box in turn and a new Mario Party will liven up the coming months. There were some surprises, but we didn’t expect Big N to remember one of its games released a few years ago. No, the Japanese publisher is not done with this Nintendo Switch exclusive and a big new feature is coming soon.
A new discipline in Nintendo Switch Sports
Over time, Nintendo Switch Sports must have been gathering dust on many shelves. When it was launched in April 2022, the return of the license that gave the Wii its heyday was not as rosy as we had hoped. The fault is a somewhat sparse content, but it should improve as the months go by. There was golf, added the same year, and that’s it. Two years later, Big N finally decides to restart the service. Starting this summer, without giving any details, a new discipline will be added for free: basketball. I’m sorry for those who regret the absence of boxing in Nintendo Switch Sports (we’re in the same boat), but this is not an immediate one.
Specifically, players will have to recreate sports gestures using the Joy-Cons. For example, they will have to move the joysticks up and down to imitate the rebound and then simulate a shot to try to score a basket. Matches with up to four players online are confirmed, as well as a mode where the goal is to score as many baskets as possible in one minute, alone or against up to five other people. As for the future of Nintendo Switch Sports, the publisher has not communicated any other possible similar free updates. Perhaps new information will be revealed when this new product launches later this summer.
