Elden Ring just got a very big patch that adds a feature that has been promised for ages. Unfortunately, not everything is rosy.
While Lords of the Fallen, a direct competitor, not long ago flexed its muscles by showing us how sublime it will be under Unreal Engine 5, now the Elden Ring attacks with a very large patch. FromSoftware has just rolled out a major update to improve the graphics of its Colt with a feature promised from the start. We are of course talking about ray tracing, this technology that offers the most realistic rendering.
In general, we tend to think that ray tracing is only good for providing nice realistic reflections. The reality is that “ray tracing” in good French touches on everything, especially light management or volumetrics.
The problem is that at the moment it consumes a lot of resources and requires a large performance hit.
On consoles, PS5 or Xbox series it’s generally only used in small touches here and there and the games don’t go past 30fps. On PC, ray tracing requires very large configurations to run at full speed, but the fact is that it often sublimates everything it touches.
Elden Ring is finally getting ray tracing, but beware on PC
At its launch Elder Ring promised us ray tracing on console and PC, which was already struggling to keep its head straight at the start. But over the course of updates, when the stability of the game has been improved, ray tracing still hasn’t come out on top to this day.
Patch 1.09Elder Ring, on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series, finally adds this much-anticipated feature. The graphics are therefore improved, but unsurprisingly the cost is high in relation to performance. On console, the game’s framerate is blocked to avoid slowdowns as much as possible.
On the PC, on the other hand, the option runs at full speed. The problem is that a very good configuration is required here to make money. Elder Ring maybe adds ray tracing but forgets the options that usually come with it. There’s still no support for DLSS or FSR to cushion the blow. Therefore, unless you are well equipped, it will be difficult to get the most out of this new update without technical problems. Finally, note that ray tracing in Elder Ring only supports shadow and ambient occlusion management. Reflections are not on the agenda, as Lance Mcdonald, a well-known social media regular, points out.
PC requirements to play with ray tracing enabled
Also, if you plan to play Elder Ring on PCs using ray tracing, here are the new configurations required and recommended by Bandai and Fromsoftware.

Patch 1.09 also fixes many bugs and does balancing
In addition to ray tracing, patch 1.09 is fromElder Ring brings a whole bunch of fixes and lots of balances. These are also different for PvE and PvP modes. As a reminder: end of 2022 Elder Ring was entitled to a very big update dedicated exclusively to PvP. Colosseums have opened up all over the underworld and players have been happily slapping each other’s faces ever since. Even more than before, because PvP has always been part of the essence of the game.
