Warcraft will soon be celebrating its 30th anniversary in grand style, with the added bonus of big announcements and surprises. One of them actually leaked before its time.
As a reminder, Blizzard is organizing a double anniversary on November 13th: that of the very first Warcraft game, released on November 15, 1994, and that of its MMO “Golden Egg”, released on November 23, 2004. A celebration that should be accompanied by announcements for all games directly or indirectly related to the sprawling heroic fantasy franchise. A leak has just pulled the rug out from under Blizzard’s feet in this regard.
Leak causes a stir before Warcraft birthday party
Before Warcraft became the Titanic MMO we know, it was originally a strategy game franchise. It started with Orcs and Humans in 1994, followed by Tides of Darkness the following year. Finally, I would particularly like to remember the legendary third work “Reign of Chaos” and its expansion “The Frozen Throne”. This was entitled to a remaster in 2020, but this caused an uproar. Warcraft 3 Reforged is terribly buggy and missing a lot of features. It has become one of the worst-rated games in history by gamers.
The leak that interests us here can therefore be borne by both sides. While many are praying for the release of a Warcraft 4, Blizzard seems to want to give the remasters another cover with the Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness. Discovered by the specialized website WoWheadwe can see on BlizzTracker the presence of an internal alpha for the strategy game released in 1995. Other elements above were then leaked, such as the logo and illustrations.
However, after the cold shower that was Warcraft 3 Reforged, fans who discovered these leaks were cautious, and perhaps rightly so. However, let’s hope that Blizzard has learned the hard way from its past mistakes and that this remaster of Tides of Darkness doesn’t sink into the abyss. We’ll definitely find out on November 13th at the franchise’s anniversary evening.
