Contrary to all expectations, Aspyr Media announces with great fanfare the return of an iconic Star Wars game on all platforms, the fans are thrilled.
It’s a time that those under 20 are unlikely to experience, although a Star Wars game already made an impression when it was released in 2000 on the PlayStation, Dreamcast and later the Game Boy Advance. However, it is appropriate to curb the enthusiasm of fans after the disaster that was the Force of Battlefront Collection, also directed by Aspyr, becoming unavailable.
This time a real comeback for a Star Wars cult game?
In the 2000s, the Star Wars license enjoyed a golden age in video games. KOTOR, Jedi Knight, Republic Commando or even Battlefront. So many truly legendary licenses that capitalized on the excitement surrounding the prelogy to attract many fans. Even though it didn’t have the same impact as the titles mentioned above, the title we’re interested in here still remains cult for many nostalgic gamers.
Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles, originally released in 2000 on PS1 and Dreamcast, makes its comeback in a remastered version on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch. The release date is scheduled for January 23, 2025, courtesy of Aspyr Media. As a reminder, this is an action game mixed platform and beat’em all. We can play several iconic Jedi from the prelogy, such as Qui-Gon Jin, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu and Plo Koon. As the name suggests, the title traces the events of the film “The Phantom Menace”.
Pre-orders for Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles are already open for the PC, PlayStation and Xbox versions, but not yet for the Nintendo Switch if you’re so inclined. The price is also “relatively” correct: 20 dollars. However, it might be wise to wait and see how the game turns out before getting excited about it. Let’s hope Aspyr has learned the lesson from the absolutely disastrous launch of the Star Wars Battlefront Collection and that the force is on their side this time…
