The highly anticipated announcement of the PC version of God of War Ragnarok was quite bittersweet, with a discovery that will likely upset more than one person.
After wowing players on PS4 and PS5 in 2022, God of War Ragnarok was now ready to do the same on PC. Only Sony clearly hasn’t learned from past mistakes with other ports of its exclusives. Bad news that could provoke a Kratos-worthy rage among players.
Is the success of God of War Ragnarok PC in danger?
We knew that a PC announcement of God of War Ragnarok was imminent. This was confirmed by the State of Play. The port of the sequel to the adventures of Kratos and Atreus in Scandinavian mythology will therefore arrive on September 19. However, this good news was quickly overshadowed by a revelation that has already caused fierce controversy about the recent titles published by Sony.
In a blog article and on the God of War Ragnarok PC Steam page we find the following note: “ A PlayStation Network account is required “. For Helldivers 2 and Ghost of Tsushima, such a requirement was understandable, for better or worse, as both games had a multiplayer component. Except that the Santa Monica Studio title is exclusively solo play. PC gamers have already expressed their displeasure with this requirement in the past, so it could be that some would rather continue rather than be forced into action by a PSN account.
Worse still, this means once again that this port will not be accessible in the 170 or so countries where PSN is not available. Is PlayStation shooting itself in the foot again with the PC version of one of its most popular exclusives? Time will tell. Until September 19, we are not safe from a regression, so it is advisable not to sell the Scandinavian Bear’s hide before it has been cut in two.
