James Gunn has found his new Supergirl: Milly Alcock will take on the role of the heroine in the new DC universe and appear in two films. Reported about it DeadlineJames Gunn confirmed shortly afterwards via Instagram the message personally.
Fans of Game of Thrones have of course long known Milly Alcock thanks to House of the Dragon:
What we know so far about the new Supergirl
With Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Alcock’s (first) solo film has already been confirmed. Led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, this is the first major chapter in DC’s new cinematic universe. A theatrical release is currently unknown.
In the DC Comics, Supergirl aka Kara Tor-El is the cousin of Superman aka Kal-El or Clark Kent. Her personal solo film is based on the direct template Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by author Tom King.
According to initial information about the project (via The Hollywood Reporter) Kara spent the first 14 years of her life on a rock near the destroyed Krypton and watched everything around her die. She was not granted a sheltered childhood like Clark Kent’s.
Milly Alcock should be seen as Supergirl earlier, at least in the form of a small guest appearance. It’s very possible that this means Superman: Legacy, which opens in theaters on July 10, 2025 and is directed by James Gunn himself. It stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
Incidentally, with her casting as Supergirl, Milly Alcock was able to prevail against two competitors: Emilia Jones (Coda) and And Donelly (The Winchesters) were also in the running for the role. Previously was Sasha Street as Supergirl in The Flash. However, the actress will not return to the role for DC’s new cinematic universe.
What do you think of Milly Alcock taking on the role of Supergirl? What hopes and expectations do you have for the new DC cinema universe from James Gunn and Peter Safran?
