In the newsroom, many of us find our hearts racing when confronted with things that aren’t very reassuring. But some are stronger than others. When it comes to horror, there are still people, whether in video games or in the cinema. While your servant is recovering with great difficulty from The Exorcist Devotion – perhaps there will be an exorcism in the form of an article in one of these four articles – over the last few days we wanted to present a project that, in the truest sense of the word, catches our eye fell. It is Stop motion.
A frightening trailer for the horror film Stopmotion
What is stop motion? A horror film that will be released in cinemas on February 23, 2024 in the USA and this year in France. The title of this feature film by Robert Morgan, who directed the “Deloused” segment in ABCs of Death 2, summarizes both its story and the process used for certain scenes. In fact, in addition to the classic shots, there will also be several stop-motion sequences. An animation format where we machine gun an object and then compose the photos and create movement. This was done, for example, for The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline or even the cult license Wallace & Gromit.
Robert Morgan is very knowledgeable in this area, having produced several short films in this way. Stopmotion tells the story of an animator, Ella, who wants to bring a dark project to life without knowing that she is not yet finished with her surprises. This creation will come to life and go beyond the scope of fiction. “Ella works in the demanding field of stop-motion animation. She operates in the shadow of her mother, a star in her discipline, who is now no longer able to lead a project to success. A cataclysmic event will drive Ella to another form of creation.” official synopsis of the film.
We won’t reveal any specific parts of the stop-motion trailer, but after watching it, the hype is there for us. It’s dark, dark, pretty dirty, in short everything you could want from a horror film. And according to early feedback from people who saw it during the PIFF 2023 festival, it does what it promises. A breathtaking and terrifying nugget that will make your blood run cold and we hope we won’t be disappointed when it’s officially released.
