Shenmue 3 – Conclusion on the release version of the small open world game

Open worlds can no longer be big enough these days. Games are constantly outbidding each other with ever more extensive worlds, including countless quests and activities that you can pursue in them. If you don’t like this trend, you should definitely take a closer look at the Japanese action game Shenmue 3.
What’s the matter? Like in the two predecessors, you slip into the skin of the young martial artist Ryo Hazuki. He started looking for his father’s murderer in the first part, and this task is still there in the youngest offshoot. Obviously he is not the best nose – or the culprit is good at hiding.
In Shenmue 3, his search leads him to the Chinese province of Guilin. There he meets the girl Shenhua Ling, with whose help he continues his mission. In the course of the plot he meets bizarre characters, some of whom are also dripping with clichés, for example the martial arts master who only instructs you after an exam (catch chickens!).
The gameplay is a mix of exploration, dialogue, puzzles and rather leisurely battles. The game world in particular invites you to take a closer look, as it is teeming with charming details and little stories everywhere.

Shenmue 3 lets us indulge in the past
The special thing about Shenmue 3 is its history. Because the game was in development for almost two decades. So the creator Yu Suzuki obviously took his time to finally implement his vision.
How the series will continue is not yet officially known. A fourth part is conceivable, however, since Suzuki definitely wants to tell the story about Ryo to the end. Let’s hope that fans don’t have to wait another twenty years.
