A great PS Vita classic, finally back

classic, finally, great, Vita

PlayStation is preparing for us the highly anticipated return of an excellent PS Vita license, no one expected it.

Many gamers of the younger generation don’t even know about it (it’s a tragedy), but there was a time when Sony took a risk on the portable console market. Its firstborn, the PSP, made its way well, always mistreated by Nintendo, which, as far as old hands remember, has always dominated the portable console market. However, PlayStation gives itself another chance with the exceptional PS Vita, a powerful device capable of displaying games with remarkable graphics. Unfortunately, it will be a flop, but a few nuggets will have managed to come out and become forgotten classics.

A PlayStation Vita classic returns from the dead

This is precisely the case with this game developed by Japan Studio at the time. A game that has some similarities to a certain Monster Hunter, if only in its structure. This is Freedom Wars, an action RPG in which you play a character (who must be created from scratch) who must fight for his freedom. In this dystopian world, every living being is sentenced to a surreal prison sentence of 1,000,000 years. To lower the score, each prisoner must complete more or less dangerous missions, while the outside world has become a real hell.

Freedom Wars had a small impact and won over many fans on PlayStation Vita, but unfortunately not enough, as the license quickly disappeared. Playable alone or in co-op, it lacks the replay value and potential that was lacking back then. Nowadays, the genre has plenty of room for a comeback, but in the absence of a new work, Sony has decided to release a major remaster.

Freedom Wars remastered has just been announced and will arrive shortly January 1, 2025 on PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch . On the menu are improved graphics, a mandatory pass through the 4K box, an overhaul of the weapon and equipment crafting system, a new difficulty level, and some secret new features.
On paper, why not. Freedom Wars is one of those forgotten PlayStation Vita classics that we never expected to hear about again. Likewise, we wouldn’t say no if Soul Sacrifice could rise from the dead.
