Supermassive Games (Until Dawn) announces their upcoming teen horror game The Quarry. Published by 2K Games, the title features a star-studded cast including actors from Scream, Aliens…
Last month’s trademark filing goes through, Supermassive Games and 2K Games announced The Quarry. A new teen horror storytelling game directed by Will Bylesthe director of Until Dawn, the studio’s most successful game (by far).
Once during a holiday internship…
We leave the haunted boat or haunted caves of The Dark Pictures Anthology games for summer camp with a chalet, lake and shovels full of dead people. Of course you have the impression of standing in front of you from the first few seconds Until Dawn 2, which doesn’t say its name. And The Quarry’s synopsis goes in that direction. A bunch of young people having fun and possibly getting cut into small pieces before sunrise… It’s literally until dawn.
As with other Supermassive Games productions, you embody different characters, here nine monitors.
As the sun sets on the last day of their summer camp, the leaders of Hackett’s Quarry decide to throw a party. No children. No adults. No regulations. But something quickly goes wrong.
Haunted by blood-covered people and something even more sinister, the teenagers experience an unexpected nightmare. Jokes and flirting give way to decisions about life and death, bonds grow closer or break under the pressure of unsustainable decisions.
Play as the Nine Monitors in a thrilling cinematic narrative where every choice made affects the story through a host of intertwined possibilities. All of these characters can be the heroes of a night or die before dawn. What meaning will your story have?
The Quarry: Actors from Scream, Freddy and Aliens in the cast
As with the studio’s previous games, the cast will feature Hollywood actors, including several iconic horror/fantasy films. See instead
- David ArquetteDewey in Scream
- Lance Henriksen (Bishop in Aliens, Terminator…)
- Lin Shaye (Claws of Night, Insidious…)
- Brenda Song (The Social Network, Dollface)
- Ariel Winter (Modern Family, FF7 Advent Children)
- Justice Smith (Jurassic World, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu)
Crucial decisions
In The Quarry, it’s again up to the player to build their story based on the choices they make. Are you curious enough to investigate a scream? Will you save your skin or that of your friends? Every decision will usually have consequences. We say “normal” because it’s true that the titles from The Dark Pictures Anthology have been less successful in this area.
The game can be tackled Solo or up to 7 online, with difficulty adjustment. According to the press release “All gameplay elements allow players of all skill levels to enjoy horror“. For example, if you are afraid to give in to the pressure to make decisions, you may be a simple viewer with cinema mode.
Finally, director Will Byles promises innovation in interactive storytelling:
The Quarry reintroduces innovations in interactive storytelling and technology to create a truly visceral teen horror experience. I can’t wait to see what choices you make, who you save, and who you are willing to sacrifice!
The quarry will be available on June 10, 2022 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC (Steam).
