After several rather quiet years, Lara is celebrating a comeback. After Tomb Raider Remastered, which allowed fans to rediscover the first adventures of the beautiful Englishwoman in the best possible way, and recently double good news on collector’s versions of certain games, Tomb Raider makes another announcement that makes fans of the license very happy should.
The Tomb Raider series is finally official!
Lara is back! Well, we know that a new Tomb Raider is currently in development at Crystal Dynamics and we are all hoping to hear news about it this year. But Miss Croft will also return to our screens shortly and more precisely on Prime Video.
During the Upfront event currently taking place in New York, Amazon made official an open secret, the arrival of a live-action Tomb Raider series. As we reported to you some time ago, the series is written and directed by the talented Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who notably stars in the no less excellent series Fleabag, also available on Prime Video.
We don’t know whether the latter will play a role in her next series or not, but the fact remains that she will be behind the camera from start to finish. Nothing further is currently known about the series. No casting, no plot or anything else. So we still have to be patient, especially since the project is just beginning, according to what has been said!
Prime Video is stocking up on video game adaptations
However, this series could be the visible part of a larger iceberg. Last year, Hollywood Reporter and Deadline in particular reported that “Tomb Raider” was entitled to much more than just a series. Apparently an entire interconnected universe would be planned. Here too we have more rumors and assumptions than facts. However, the recent formalization of the live-action series with Phoebe Waller-Bridge at the helm offers cause for hope.
For Amazon Prime Video, this Tomb Raider project will be one of the many video game adaptations that will enter the catalog.
