I met Sam Raimi today at Texas Frightmare Weekend and asked him about his interest in directing a Batman movie in James Gunn’s DCU.
The villain he would most like to use?
Ra’s al Ghul.
You understand, If Sam Raimi were directing a Batman film for James Gunn, the director would be tempted to revisit Ra’s al Ghul. a supervillain we’ve already seen in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. An idea that would fit perfectly with Sam Raimi’s particularly dark and strange universe, as the antagonist is terrifying.
A surprising anecdote to say the least, since we already know that The Brave and the Bold, the next Batman movie (which, as a reminder, hasn’t announced its director yet), will feature Damian Wayne. For those who don’t know, Damian Wayne is not only Batman’s son, he is also Ra’s al Ghul’s grandson. It remains to be seen whether this is a simple coincidence or, on the contrary, a hint.
