The previously announced John Wick animated project is still in the works, and now it’s apparently a movie about how the eponymous character came to be retired.
This time last year, John Wick director Chad Stahelski revealed that an animated project set in the world of the franchise was in the works, with plans to turn it into a TV show. But now, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s recent interview with Stahelski, the animation appears to have been lightly adapted. The film is apparently a prequel, focusing on everyone’s favorite titular assassin as he embarks on “Mission Impossible” that allows him to retire for love. Whether this needs to be reflected in the movie is up for debate, but if done well, the John Wick animated series could be a very fun trip to the theaters.

When the anime was announced, Stahelski said they were working on an anime because “I love Japanese animation so much. To create all the cool stories and TV shows that anime can do better than we can to expand our world.” , we’re still going to get settled, you know what I mean? We’re still going to have all the fun. Stahelski is apparently trying to get involved in as much animation as possible, as he’s also been overseeing the action scenes in the upcoming series Lazarus, directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, best known for Cowboy Bebop, so I’m expecting some intense fight scenes from that one.
Stahelski also talked about a possible John Wick 5, though he didn’t commit to anything that way, saying: “If there’s an opportunity to do [John Wick 5]? Of course there is, both for money and creativity. Gosh, I’ve had three or four versions of John Wick 5 in the last three years. They had different ways of cracking the story, but it was almost a mental exercise for me. ”
However, in an effort to preserve the fourth film’s ending, he did note that it “will not be part of the fourth film.” [John Wick: Chapter 4] storyline. It won’t be what you imagine. as far as [John Wick: Chapter 4]we have reached the peak. ”
Regardless, John Wick still has a lot of work to do, with a sequel TV series on the way and a Ballerina spinoff set to hit theaters next year.
