More than 20 years after its release, we had a big reveal about FFX, one of the most popular works in the series. And it comes to us directly from an iconic character from Final Fantasy.
If we were to make a ranking of the Final Fantasy most appreciated by the community, the 10 would certainly fall into several top 5. It has to be said that it offers an unforgettable adventure, with a cast that really left its mark. In Europe it was released on PS2 in 2002 and was a huge success. Critics praised it and even today there is no doubt about its popularity. But do we know everything about it? After all, he is now over 20 years old. Can he really keep secrets from us? Well, we just found out that is the case.
A big revelation about FFX music
In terms of FFX’s history, this isn’t really a revelation. In reality, it’s about the music of this opus. You know as well as we do that Final Fantasy and music are one long love story. One of the most important personalities composing for the license is obviously Nobuo Uematsu. A true master of his art, who was involved in the creation of many timeless compositions. If you don’t know him, his designs are probably different. And he actually gave us a lot of information about this very special game.
For those who have made FFX, To Zanarkand must have a special place in their hearts. It’s undoubtedly a great piece, but it wasn’t originally intended for the title. In fact, it shouldn’t even be used for a video game. As Uematsu explained in an interview, it was intended to be used in a concert and it was a flute player who used the maestro’s services. In the end, our husband decided it was too “sad” for a concert, so he decided to leave it aside. He ended up releasing it for Final Fantasy X. A blessing in disguise.
“To Zanarkand” shouldn’t be the theme for FFX. There was a flute player in France who originally asked me to write a song that he could play at a concert. When I wrote it I thought it might sound a little too sad for a concert. So I put it aside for a while.
Some time later, while composing music for FFX, I fell behind while the producers harassed me. Since this piece of flute wasn’t being used, I just gently passed it to them. They listened to it and said, “Yeah, that’s great!” ».
