In addition to the recent presentation of the Pro version, which caused a lot of excitement, the PS5 is receiving a major update today with expected new features.
Shortly after announcing the launch of the PS5 Pro, Sony released a major update for its home consoles. This major update is rolling out gradually today, as usual, to all regions of the world and changes some interesting things, notably big new features for 3D audio and even more customization options for our reception area.
A big update is coming for PS5
This is where we will start. Sony now allows us to create a fully customizable area right on the home screen. A tab where we can integrate a multitude of small widgets and arrange them as we wish. Quick access to specific games, trophies, a clock or the state of your connected hardware… we have access to a whole range of different options to personalize our experience.
The icing on the cake is that it will FINALLY be possible to change the welcome background. Of course, there will be a library of already pre-recorded themes that will be available with this update (and maybe new ones later, you never know), but above all we will be able to insert our own recordings, such as excellent screenshots taken with the photo modes of certain games, for example. That’s cool.
A new, highly anticipated 3D audio management
Second big new feature of this PS5 update, new options to manage 3D audio. This feature has been available in beta for months and is now finally available to everyone. According to the first feedback, it would even be a “game changer”. Understand that it would be so effective that it would significantly change the gaming experience. If you go to the “Audio Options” panel, you can now follow several small steps to refine and personalize your 3D audio profile.
This will of course allow you to enjoy a truly personalized experience, but above all to better understand certain games. We are thinking here in particular of FPS lovers like Appreciation or the next Call of Duty BlackOps 6 who can hear their enemies clearly, or fans of horror games and other immersive experiences where sound plays a major role.
Other interface improvements and some additional options for social actions, such as chat party management, have also been added. Finally, let’s mention a PS5 Slim and soon a PS5 Pro exclusive: adaptive charging for Dualsense, Access or even PSVR 2 controllers. This feature allows you to achieve great energy savings when charging the batteries of our accessories.
