One of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero’s biggest weaknesses has now been fixed thanks to the work of a member of the community. A welcome novelty, but one that remains limited.
Despite its flaws, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero brilliantly brings the Budokai Tenkaichi franchise back to the forefront. The waiting time was long, because during the early access phase alone, from October 8th to 10th, 2024, Bandai Namco’s fighting game reached 112,000 players simultaneously on Steam. The power of the Saiyans has allowed other versus fighting titles such as Street Fighter 6 (peak of 70,000), Tekken 8 (peak of 50,000), Dragon Ball FighterZ (peak of 44,000) or even the Mortal reboot Kombat 1 (peak of 38,000) .
A popular Dragon Ball Sparking Zero mode is being improved
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero had a historic start on all levels, especially when it came to sales. The Japanese publisher quickly releases a figure that is dizzying, although not entirely surprising given the aura of Akira Toriyama’s cult saga. In just 24 hours, more than 3 million copies of the game were sold worldwide across all platforms (PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC). A crazy and deserved success, according to many people, including your dear editorial team, who rated Dragon Ball Sparking Zero 9/10.
The game’s future is therefore secured and new characters were leaked last week. Bandai Namco will soon release DLC for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero featuring C-8, Grandpa Gohan, Chi-Chi, Mai, King Vegeta and many others. Although the roster is very solid, there is one place where Spike Chunsoft’s software stumbles: the split-screen mode. When playing with friends in 2-player local splitscreen mode, you cannot select the battle terrain. The environment of the Hall of Spirit and Time is predetermined, and nothing will change for the time being.
But a “Let’s Fight Somewhere Else” mod, developed by Sora101Ven, finally fixes this major weak point of the game on PC. Once loaded, you can select any Dragon Ball Sparking Zero setting and compete against a friend on the same screen. If you are interested, the Mod is available on NexusMods.
