In full John Wick 4 promotion, director Chad Stahelski spoke again about the Ghost of Tsushima movie. Ready to continue the same visual punch as the game?
The Ghost of Tsushima movie is one of PlayStation’s upcoming flagship adaptations. But unlike the feature film Gran Turismo, which opens this summer, Jin Sakai’s adventures on the big screen are in no rush. What matters is the end result, and according to the director, we can count very hard.
The Ghost of Tsushima movie was meant to dazzle gamers
Director Chad Stahelski’s ambitions for the film Spirit of Tsushima are big. In various interviews, the filmmaker was adamant about what he wanted and didn’t want. And what he wants most of all is something authentic that the original material doesn’t give away. One of the biggest challenges at this level will be to have a fully Japanese-accepted feature film with subtitles in the different languages of each country and with a Japanese cast.
But he is aware of the negative impact this could have from a financial perspective and is therefore seeking a balance between his vision and the commercial performance expected from Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions. Also, he had already promised that the Ghost of Tsushima movie was coming “visually stunning”. And obviously he hasn’t changed his attitude and will even use his experience at John Wick 4 to give a slap in the face. As players who have completed GoT know, especially in terms of colors, Sucker Punch’s game offers stunning vistas with sparkling gradients.
I hope that what we have learned over the last few years with DI (Digital Intermediate) – the process that allows in particular the adjustment of colors before the film is finished – will allow us to bring the cinematic dimension to a level , the Ghost reached Tsushima earned. . You can see the purples and pinks, we can push the colors as far as John Wick: Chapter 4.

A tribute to Akira Kurosawa
In addition to its classic mode with its sparkling colors, Ghost of Tsushima has the option to apply a “Kurosawa” filter to the entire game. Kurosawa as in Akira Kurosawa, the legendary Japanese director. Once the filter is in place, the screen changes to black and white with scratches on the image to reproduce certain characteristics of the film. A surprisingly very successful mode that could have its place in the Ghost of Tsuhima movie.
How? That’s the whole point, but Chad Stahelski has told our colleagues at IGN that it is “an ongoing conversation” At this point. Why not an explosion of colors for almost the entire feature film and a black and white sequence in the middle, for example during an important confrontation?
Chad Stahelski wants to take his time so the film doesn’t have a casting today. However, two actors tear up the lead role: Andrew Koji, a martial artist and stuntman, but also Daisuke Tsuji, the interpreter of Jin Sakai in the game.
