CS GO has been the heyday of competitive FPS enthusiasts for many years, but Valve has a big surprise in its boxes.
Counter Strike Global Offensive, also known as CS GO, has been one of the most played games on Steam since its release in 2012. Players are still there, and in large numbers. The title has also made a name for itself in esports, generating insane amounts of money alongside DOTA 2, another big game from Valve. But all that could change soon as many very serious reports confirm there will be news for counterstrikeand it would be imminent.
New for Counterstrike
That tells us Richard Lewis, major eSports journalist to whom we owe many revelations about the sports scene. He’s notably one of those who exposed the cheating scandals in high-profile competition CS GO.
Lewis returns today to announce that a new FPS, currently called Counterstrike 2, would be used by Valve. In fact, its sources have stated that “a new version of Counter-Strike is on the way”, a new game that the developers have been working on “for a long time”. (above VGC)
Better yet, Lewis said, an announcement and beta would be planned in the coming days. So it’s imminent.
NVIDIA spills the beans too?
And if this information catches our attention, it’s because other sources seem to be corroborating the news as well. Discreet users have actually noticed that a recent NVIDIA update mentioned several unknown executables and optimizations for yet to be announced titles. cs 2 (cs2.exe) and csgo 2 (csgos2.exe)
Something strange just happened. The latest NVIDIA drivers introduced support for unknown executable applications named “csgos2.exe” and “cs2.exe”. Why the project is called Counter-Strike 2 and what are you preparing CSGO ?
An overhaul of CS GO? A Counter Strike 2? something is coming
Doubts are therefore no longer allowed, Valve is preparing something big and we should know more soon. However, several dataminers and whistleblowers claim that it wouldn’t really be a new game, but more of a complete overhaul of sorts CSGO which would then be ported to Valve’s new graphics engine, the Source 2.
I have pretty reliable information that Valve has tested CSGO on Source 2 with the help of external quality assurance companies in the United States and Europe since at least early December. I can’t 100% confirm this, but it’s usable enough to share.
Keep in mind that until the company officially confirms something, it should be considered speculation. Especially things related to “third parties”.
Well, it’s not Half Life 3 anyway
But without official information, it is currently difficult to see very clearly. What is certain is that fans are on the alert and waiting for news. Gamers have been waiting for years for new games from the giant, which until now has mainly developed its Steam platform and a whole lot of hardware like the Steam Deck, the Steam Controller or the Valve Index. But while many are waiting for the famous Half Life 3, or even a Left 4 dead 3eventually it would be counterstrike who would have the right to a trifle. Now we just have to wait for an official announcement.
