It is now clear that there will be a sequel to “Alien Romulus”, even if the director has not yet confirmed it. But the franchise manager is also ready to emerge from the shadows.
Alien Romulus didn’t make as much money as Prometheus, $350 million compared to $403 million, with a budget of just $80 million it is a successful venture for Disney and a success on all levels (critical and commercial). A hit that put stars in the eyes of the big heads of the big-eared company and those at Fox, all ready to exploit the vein to the end. A new film has been announced, but not everyone will like it.
An armada of new Alien films in the coming years?
20th Century Fox is already ready for Alien Romulus 2. “We are currently working on an idea for a sequel. We haven’t quite finalized our deal with Fede yet [Alvarez]but we’re going to do it, and he has an idea we’re working on. Steve Asbell, the company’s boss, told The Hollywood Reporter. According to the man, this sequel could focus on the characters Rain (Cailee Spaeny) and Andy (David Jonsson), who are one of Alien Romulus’ strengths.
Even though Fede Alvarez hasn’t made it official yet, it appears that Ridley Scott will continue to be the producer and have a say in this sequel and any possible future films. « It wouldn’t make sense to make another film without Ridley [Scott] and us [Scott Free Productions] » Justin Alvarado Brown, president of Scott Free Productions, told The Hollywood Reporter.
But the director, who is preparing to release “Gladiator 2” in theaters on November 13, 2024, also apparently wants to regain control of his franchise and clearly wants to get back behind the camera. Thanks to the American magazine we find out Ridley Scott is developing new Alien filmwithout us knowing more. Will there be a sequel to Covenant to complete this beginning of the trilogy? Perhaps. Some would like to see the character of David played by Michael Fassbender again.
In any case, this announcement will cause a stir for the future of the cult saga, especially after the criticism of Prometheus and Covenant. If the planets align, there could even be an Alien vs. Predator movie co-directed by Dan Tratchenberg (Prey) and Fede Alvarez. And yes, that doesn’t even include the Alien Earth series planned for Disney+ in 2025. Xenomorph morning, noon and night, in short! Tasty or disgusting for you?
