Unreal Engine 5, Epic Games’ next-generation engine, has just been updated to version 5.4. This update aims to expand the already impressive capabilities even further.
The new version of Unreal Engine 5 had already demonstrated its capabilities last month at GDC 2024 with the annual State of Unreal conference. This is now in the hands of the developers, with many particularly promising contributions for them, but also for the players.
Unreal Engine 5 shows its promising performance
So far, Unreal Engine 5 has been impressive, but also terribly greedy. In order to take advantage of flagship technologies like Nanite, Lumen or even MetaHuman, compromises had to be made on current consoles or an absolutely monstrous PC was required. With version 5.4, Epic Games has therefore seriously focused on improving the performance of its engine. Thanks to this new version, the untouchable 60 FPS should be easier to achieve on current hardware.
These engine performance efforts also include improving shader compilation. This should lead to a significant development in terms of fluidity. In addition to a more stable frame rate, the stuttering caused by compilation should occur significantly less. “ While many developers are aiming for a 60Hz experience, we’ve made significant efforts to improve rendering performance in Unreal Engine 5.4 » says Epic Games in the video below.
A promising future for Epic Games’ flagship engine
With this new version, Unreal Engine 5 shows even more promise. However, with the release of Hellblade 2 very imminent, it seems that the Ninja Theory title will not be able to benefit from this. However, this will not be the case with Marvel 1943: Rise of the Hydra in particular. This new game from Amy Hennig actually had access to all of these new features in Early Access. This also meant that fans were treated to a trailer of almost superhuman beauty.
Let’s hope that the many other games based on Unreal Engine 5 will be of the same kind and have good performance on the program. We are thinking in particular of The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, among many other highly anticipated titles created in collaboration with Epic Games.
