Ubisoft’s free-to-play FPS XDefiant continues to receive updates, with a new patch bringing several changes frequently requested by players.
In its small corner, Ubisoft’s free FPS XDefiant continues its success. The basic idea has convinced many players who are looking for an alternative to Call of Duty. However, the game still has some problems that the community has repeatedly identified. The new update called Y1S1.2 fixes a large part of them.
XDefiant will continue to be updated without much delay
On July 2, XDefiant officially launched its first season, so this update is the second since that date. Ubisoft is therefore keeping a fairly steady pace when patching its free FPS, particularly with server issues, something the title has struggled with since its release on May 21. Until now, players with pings over 150 have had to endure endless wait times. This should change with the Y1S1.2 update. Likewise, matchmaking should make it less likely that players are sent to regions that are not their own and therefore find themselves in queues that are too long due to a ping that is too high.
As for gameplay, those who exploit a bug that allows them to gain speed will be punished by getting stuck. Finally, many weapons have been improved or nerfed to provide some balance in this sense. Mark Rubin, executive producer of XDefiant, has also clarified that more changes of this kind are to be expected in the next update. In any case, you can find all the Y1S1.2 patch notes below.
Full Y1S1.2 patch notes
Gameplay
- Fixed a delay when reloading, switching weapons, or deploying gadgets caused by players rapidly pressing the fire and ability buttons.
- Players who exploited a speed hack are now stuck, which is the opposite of what they were looking for.
Fractions
- Following an agreement with pharmaceutical company GSK, the Team Rainbow faction will now be known as the GS Commando. To save time, feel free to continue calling them the “Border Guard Commando.”
- Fixed an issue where DedSec Spiderbots would ignore victims the player had previously targeted in the field. They will now embrace new and old faces with equal enthusiasm.
- Players can remove DedSec Spiderbots from their own faces again. Hard to understand why; everyone loves Spiderbots.
- The functionality of Echelon’s Intel Suit has been optimized. It now pulses every four seconds instead of every three. Enemies remain highlighted for 1 second instead of 2.7 seconds, so everyone needs to stay alert.
- Some abilities were not always activated or sometimes stopped working. It has been fixed.
cards
- Fixed a strange issue that allowed players to leave a spawn area in Times Square earlier when jumping from a photo frame.
Game modes
- The Mode List screen has been updated to show all available game modes.
- Added menu text stating that Bronze rank is unlocked on first win.
- Fixed an issue that caused the small lock icon to appear on ranked rewards even when players earned them fairly.
XDefiant Weapons
Various weapons have been adjusted for game balance. Here are the changes to your shooting specifications:
- The M4A1’s melee damage has been increased from 17 to 18.
- MDR melee damage increased from 17 to 19.
- MP5A2 medium range damage increased from 13 to 14. Headshot damage multiplier increased from 1.35x to 1.4x.
- The MP5A2’s short range was increased from 16 m to 18 m. Its average range increased from 25 m to 27 m.
- The MDR ADS speed has been increased from 300 ms to 250 ms.
- The M44’s sprint time (sprint time before firing) has been increased from 350 ms to 400 ms.
- The TAC-50 sprint exit time has been increased from 600 ms to 625 ms.
- The L115’s sprint fire time has been increased from 550 ms to 575 ms.
- Sniper rifles (M44, TAC-50 and L115) have experienced a slight increase in dispersion when firing from the hip (as opposed to aiming via optics).
- The visual representation of tracer shots and ammo holster ejections has been improved so that both move away from their respective weapons more accurately.
- The way the targeting system detects player inputs has been adjusted so that recoil recovery is brought back into focus and is not disrupted by the player’s unintentional nervousness in the heat of battle.
- Fixed an issue that allowed players to auto-shoot upon respawn if they held down the shoot and sprint buttons when dying.
Audio
- Various graphics and audio fixes.
Miscellaneous
- Fixed the hit point value on the kill screen (from one to zero) of players who kill other players post-mortem (through a well-placed proximity mine, incendiary grenade, or similar sustained attack strategies).
- Previously, players with pings over 150ms were forced to wait for an insanely long time to matchmake. We’ve improved the matchmaking settings so that your ping is evaluated more frequently, which should significantly reduce matchmake wait times. Additionally, players of all ping skills can now instantly access the practice area, where they can train their ping frustrations in a healthy and constructive way.
- Various crash fixes.
