Helldivers 2 is once again in turmoil after making a new radical decision that doesn’t please at all. In any case, democracy is struggling to re-establish itself properly.
Helldivers 2 has been getting a lot of attention lately. However, the reason is not as cool as a release, because if the game is currently in the news, it is due to a decision made by Sony that was not implemented. In fact, the company has requested a mandatory connection to its services for Helldivers 2 PC players, who still make up more than half of active players. Creating a PSN account sparked the ire of the community as it not only became mandatory but also blocked access to the game in countries not covered by PlayStation Network services.
Helldivers 2 and its not really democratic practices
Everything fell apart very quickly and thousands of review bombardments later, Sony backtracked. It was over, or almost, because after this revolution of a few days heads fell. And that doesn’t resonate with the players at all. In particular, it was the community manager Spitz, who has now become an icon of this community uprising, who stated that he had been fired following the recent events. During the outcry, Spitz had actually urged the community to make their voices heard by bombarding reviews or demanding refunds so that Sony could listen, as the company appeared to have no regard for gamers’ anger.
As a result, Spitz, who was nicknamed “General Spitz” by the community when the dust settled, claimed to have been forced to leave his post. “I knew I was taking a risk with my statements about refunds and changing reviews, but I stand by them. It was my job to represent the community and that’s what I did.” he explains.
We have to save General Spitz
In less time than it takes to express it, part of the Helldivers 2 community has climbed the towers. A petition
Despite the drama, we won’t forget to have a little fun. In any case, Helldivers 2 is obviously not completely free of its problems. I hope things work out for the game and the studio in the end. But also General Spitz, dismissed as undemocratically as possible.
