Officially dubbed Project Q, the release date of the PlayStation 5 Portable would have been announced in advance. It could happen sooner than expected.
Sony has put an end to the rumours. It has been rumored for some time that the manufacturer is secretly preparing some kind of portable console. No PS Vita 2 in sight, but some kind of hybrid device based on the cloud and the PS5’s Remote Play technology. To popularize this famous Project Q, it is essential to have a new generation console. In these conditions it is difficult to speak of a console strictly speaking, but the Japanese publisher has confirmed its existence during PlayStation Showcase 2023. Jim Ryans’ is content to explain without further details that the device, dubbed the PS5 Portable, would be launched this year. They didn’t count on the insider who had originally revealed the truth.
The PS5 Portable is slated to launch in November 2023
The PS5 Portable is officially called Project Q. For now, at least, the name spoken by Jim Ryan during the PlayStation Showcase is just a codename. If the design was a secret novelty, the rest has been known for a few weeks. Tom Henderson (Insider Gaming) revealed the existence of such a hybrid console some time ago, now it’s confirmed. The device in question will take the form of a DualSense controller, with an 8-inch LCD screen embedded in the center. Based on the cloud-based Remote Play functionality, a mandatory WiFi connection is required to “ Run any PS5 game
Details are still sparse at the moment, but one thing is certain: this semi-portable PS5 will be launched this year. However, his exit window is becoming clearer thanks to a new leak. Tom Henderson Repetition and its sources, the reliability of which cannot be questioned at this time, indicate that the device should be launched in mid-November 2023 or at the latest by the end of the month in question. We don’t know if this date will also affect the wireless headphones, which were also announced during the PlayStation Showcase. Jim Ryan has promised to provide an update on Project Q later this year. So we should try to find a solution soon enough, especially since it wouldn’t be the only hardware in the boxes.
More new things will follow
Sony would also prepare a new model of the rather special PlayStation. It would feature the design of the digital PS5, but would also feature a USB-connected removable storage device. A new version that ultimately aims to replace the existing ones, which would allow Sony to reduce the cost of manufacturing its console. A more powerful model is also in development. The PS5 Pro is scheduled for release in 2024, with a new chip and a new water cooling system.
