Monster No. 8 will have some sort of animated sequel, but all that has been confirmed so far is where it will air.

If you’ve been enjoying the anime adaptation of Kaiju No. 8 and its particular take on the kaiju genre, then I have good news for you: soon after the 12th and final episode of the first season aired, it was confirmed that the series would be getting a sequel of some sort. I say sequel rather than season 2 because technically the anime hasn’t been confirmed to be getting a second season, but the official Japanese Kaiju No. 8 Twitter account has confirmed that a sequel is in the works. A short trailer has been released, which you can check out below, though it doesn’t show off a whole lot.

The only thing that’s really confirmed about the sequel being made is that Akira Uchiyama, known for his work on a number of series including My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Devilman Crybaby, and Soul Eater, will be joining the cast to play the role of Gen Narumi, the leader of the First Division. Crunchyroll also confirmed that the sequel will be streaming online, but didn’t reveal any further details on when it would be available. The first season actually aired on Twitter and Crunchyroll, but honestly, I wouldn’t believe you if you watched it there (and if you did, why would you).

The past year has been filled with a ton of kaiju media, with Godzilla Minus One coming out in 2023 and Godzilla x Kong: A New Empire earlier this year. Monsters 8 is certainly a great way to follow up on both of those movies, especially if you’re looking for something a little more comedic, though these characters aren’t without interesting stories to tell. As mentioned earlier, the first season is currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
