red fall Set as Akon’s Biggest game to date, where one specific area is larger than the overall setup of one of the studio’s older games, prey.
QuakeCon has come and gone, but not without digging into some details about upcoming vampire first-person shooter Redfall. As part of the convention’s digital event, developers from Arkane Austin, including studio director Harvey Smith, talked about what the game is and what players can expect.
In a conversation between developers, the size of the map was brought up. “When it comes to size, I think Talos in Prey has five football fields, and Redfall is a bit like ‘hold my beer,'” art director Karen Segars said in the video.
Smith provided some more context on the scale, saying: “I remember earlier when we were working in District 2, which was a bit more rural, Jim McGill put Talos on a massive scale. In the middle of the farm, that’s there. Of course, this block just eats up the entire space station. It’s huge.”
Interestingly, while Smith does note that this is an open-world game, it’s not made in the context of traversing through vehicles. Because you will spend time exploring the beauty of Red Falls on foot. “[You can] Going through the place, going into mom-and-pop shops, apartments, going up to the roofs of buildings,” Smith said. “We tried to put as many ambient story scenes around as possible, so it felt lived in. “
Each character also obviously has its own skill tree, and each character has a variety of abilities to choose from. Weapons will also sound interesting, and one particular weapon highlighted is a stake gun, which sounds like it would be a very useful tool. Stakes can be made from a broken pool cue or a broken mop handle, which feels like a really fun and practical way to bring a fun weapon into the game.
The full video is worth watching, as none of the previously released trailers so far have given the strongest idea of what the game might look like in practice.
PC Game Pass subscribers got some good news at QuakeCon, with 10 games from id Software and Bethesda joining the service, including Return to Wolfenstein and Earthquake 4.
