A few days after publication, the first report about Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League came out, which is unfortunately not encouraging for the makers of Batman Arkham.
Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League was officially released for everyone on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on February 2nd, with a very complicated launch. Buyers of the digital deluxe edition were hardly able to take advantage of this version’s big bonus: early access. An hour after going live, Rocksteady Studios had to stop the servers to fix a major bug. This has since been corrected and a large gift has been offered as compensation. But is the game going well so far? Not really…
Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is less popular than Avengers
Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League has been causing a stir on the web for several days. Between the unlikely bug where the game indicated that the campaign was over upon first connection and the feedback, Rocksteady Studios’ new production (Batman Arkham) was mishandled. And maybe it’s just beginning.
Via SteamDB we learn that the game brought together 13,459 players this weekend, the largest peak observed. That’s half as many as Marvel’s Avengers, which reached more than 31,165 viewers at the same time. The popularity of the brand with its iconic superheroes (Iron Man, Hulk, etc.) may have been the deciding factor, even if the tests were anything but positive.
As far as feedback goes, there are currently two schools for Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League. That from Metacritic with an average of 62/100 across 29 press reviews and a very low 3.8/10 from gamers. As usual, a review bombing cannot be ruled out as some probably don’t have the title in their possession. And then there are Steam users who seem to be more attracted to the offer, as 85% of the 2,584 reviews are positive.
But are these visitor numbers “deserved”? We’ll return to this in detail throughout our review, but while the game is full of flaws that diminish its appreciation, it fares better than Marvel’s Avengers anti-heroes in terms of narrative, characters, humor and gameplay. What actually still weighs on him in the eyes of Batman Arkham fans is the overall dimension of the game service.
Free content for years?
Aside from the people who would have wanted another Batman Arkham, some have expressed grave fears that a single-player gaming studio would give in to the sirens of GaaS. This could also partially explain Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League’s poor performance on Steam at launch. The players didn’t feel reassured by what they saw and therefore didn’t dare to take the plunge. And we must not forget that this is a field in which many are called but ultimately only a few are chosen, and it is very risky to undertake this adventure.
Nevertheless, Rocksteady believes in the potential of Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League and has already internally confirmed plans for four seasons. A model without abusive microtransactions, except for skins between $9.99 and $19.99. Several free contents are coming and we will see the fruits of the developers’ labor in a few weeks, in March, with the addition of the Joker. Of course, it’s very good to have a lot of new things available for free, but it’s also important that the teams make the next missions much more varied. Otherwise, some people might try to throw in the towel after the story and endgame are complete.
