A look at top sellers on Steam is like occasionally looking under the bed: you actually know what awaits you there. But sometimes, among all the lost socks, snack packaging and dust mice, little treasures surprise you that you didn’t even expect.
If you look at the best-selling titles (as of March 3, 2024) on Steam, you will also find the newcomer Supermarket Simulator between the current hits like Enshrouded, Palworld, Last Epoch and of course Baldur’s Gate 3.
The simulator, released on February 20, 2024, is currently available worldwide 10th bestseller, In Europey it even made it to 5th place – and is only behind Helldivers 2, Counter-Strike 2, Last Epoch and the Steam Deck.
But why does the Supermarket Simulator fascinate players worldwide so much?
Cozy and captivating insider tip
What is Supermarket Simulator anyway? The simulator went into early access on February 20, 2024 and currently has 94 percent positive reviews with almost 4,000 reviews. The free prologue, which was published in January, received a rating of 97 percent from around 500 reviews. The Supermarket Simulator is currently available with a 20 percent discount for 10.39 dollars.
As the name of the title suggests, in the simulation you run your own supermarket, sort goods, stand at the checkout, set prices and take care of the customers.
Over 30,000 players on Steam are currently running their own shops – Over 37,000 people watch on Twitchlike others do.
The Steam reviews also directly reveal the game’s greatest strength: It has a pleasant gameplay flow that immediately draws you in. Steam user Egon Kowalski also had to experience this firsthand:
It’s 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday. I come home stressed from a 9 hour shift and want to relax. That’s when I look at the new releases on Steam. Behold a new simulator, sounds very relaxed. Seen bought and played. If it weren’t for the very small problem, I’VE WORKED IN A SUPERMARKET MYSELF FOR 12 YEARS AND PLAYED A SUPERMARKET SIMULATOR AFTER FINISHING!!! WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE!!!
The game mechanics, especially sorting the goods, have an almost meditative effect on the players. For many, it is the perfect game to wind down and switch off.
Since the simulator is currently still in early access, there are of course still a few requests for improvements from the community. For example, many ask for multiplayer or the ability to hire employees to help stock shelves.
Many of the annoying bugs that were still in the game when it was released have now been fixed. The solo developer would like to continue to concentrate on the numerous bug fixesbefore adding new content to the game.
An initial roadmap promises, for example, the introduction of credit cards, cleaning the store, a larger city, online shopping, and the desired hiring of employees.
Have you already tried the simulation? If so, please tell us in the comments how you like it!
