The fall of Babylon’s fall never ends. Designed for multiplayer, the game is clearly in agony when one person finds himself alone on PC.

It’s official, Babylon’s Fall underperforms Anthem. A month after falling below 10 players on Steam, the game from the makers of NieR and Bayonetta is dangerously close to being canceled.

When there was only one player left in the game

The debacle of Babylon’s fall continues. A few weeks ago, Square Enix’s live service game fell below 10 active players on PC. And if you thought PlatinumGames’ latest production couldn’t go any deeper, you were wrong. This Wednesday, April 4th, Babylon’s Fall hit rock bottom with a single player on PC. Luckily for this person, the game can be played solo, although it unleashes its full potential in co-op with three other players.

Since then the number of active players has stabilized at a minimum of 15 people with a peak of 58 fighters. Surely it’s not glorious and scary that a game service ordered by a well-known publisher reaches its critical threshold within just two months. Especially since Square Enix has sold some of its strong licenses to partially bet on this type of game. That and of course the blockchain. No luck on this side either, the NFTs so praised by the Japanese publisher are also in free fall.

Can Babylon’s fall rise again?

In any case, Babylon’s case shows all the signs of “dead game” syndrome. Marvel’s Avengers and Outriders managed to keep at least 10x follower base. And even if we don’t have insight into the game’s performance on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, we imagine it’s not more glorious.

Perhaps the upcoming content will lure some people in, but chances are it will follow the same trajectory as other games with the same disastrous destiny: abandonment. So far, neither PlatinumGames nor Square Enix have said they don’t want to scale back development.
